Contents

This build uses quick-recharging, cost-efficient spells to spam pressure and support spells. The strength of this build is that it does not require an elite skill for energy management or damage as Monks and other classes do, allowing it to assist with essential utility skills such as Blood is Power, Consume Soul or Expel Hexes while still dealing a formidable amount of damage and healing. The build utilizes the spirit, Destruction, and Generous Was Tsungrai to trigger the secondary effects of skills, the former of which has a short recharge time, allowing more mobility, while the latter increases maximum health for two or three superior rune, synergizes with BiP's sacrifice cost, and provides an emergency heal at the same time.

This build works very well alongside healers with strong healing but lacking in energy management, such as the Word of Healing monks, Blessed Light monk (although in this casecondition removal may become redundant), Zaishen Healer/Monk Henchmen. Aside from that, the build functions most spectacularly when teamed up with a spirit spamming ritualist.

[edit] Equipment

The build is easy to assemble, using very common skills, no necessary elites, and no weapons. The build is meant to hold an item almost all the time, so Oracle's Armor would effectively give 70 armor. However, due to the lack of weapons and foci, you will have low maximum energy, so a combination of Oracle’s and Halcyon's Armor may be be preferable. The build has built in energy management that allows you to keep your energy up, making it a minor problem.

Multiple sets of armor with different runes would help if your DP becomes too high.

Although the name is “Barehand Channeler” and that it can, indeed, be effective without any weapons, a set of weapons for + energy (in case you need to bring Destruction up quickly for Essence Strike), one for defense (when you Drop Generous Was Tsungrai), and another for - energy (to lower energy levels before you die, allowing you to be more ready when resurrected) could be useful in some situations. Either way, it is important to be familiar with the hotkeys (F1-4) so you can quickly switch weapon sets and drop Generous Was Tsungrai at the right time. An Enchanter's Mod would also be useful for 4 more energy gained from BiP.

[edit] Usage

  • Try to have Generous Was Tsungrai on at all times. Note that if your health is high enough, it would be wise to directly recast Generous Was Tsungrai instead of dropping it, whereas if your health is low, you should drop it using a hotkey and then immediately recast it (following it up with Soothing Memories if under attack), as long as you are not in danger of interruption. Your maximum health with Generous Was Tsungrai (assuming Major Vig Rune) is 511, meaning that you sacrifice 51 health, whereas if you drop it first, you have 371 health, sacrificing 37 only). The healing, that way, also comes first, making it safer for you if you're under attack.
  • Using GwT as a self heal, try to keep BiP up on monks. While the healing from this build is subpar, BiP allows your team's monk to spam heals much more often, and may result, as a team, in even more healing than two monks.
  • When nearing a fight, place Destruction in an appropriate area. Use Essence Strike as often as possible for energy, and Spirit Burn for primary pressure. Target soft targets to divert the enemy’s healing.
  • Heal with Mend Body and Soul when you need it, or use it for condition removal if spirit is present. The spells is quite cost efficient even without the condition removal.
  • Spam Soothing Memories as they are both cost effective spells and would give your team an edge in terms of pressure.
  • Use BiP as nessesary. Counter BiP with Soothing Memories and GwT if possible, as they are both energy efficient heals. Only use more expensive heals or assistance from monks if you are in danger.

Unless using one of the more offensive variations such as with Vengeful Weapon and Ancestor's Rage, it is important to concentrate more on healing, and remember that Channeling's main use is pressure and energy management. Under tense situations (especially if you are acting as a healer), it is okay to use Essence Strike on random targets for energy instead of selecting carefully. As a rule of thumb, Essence Strike should be used as to optimize the energy gain-- as often as possible and when energy is not close to full.

[edit] Variants

  • Ancestors' Rage could be used for increasing your DPS, especially in PvE, but would eat away your energy. Consider switching Mend Body and Soul for it if you do not need the healing.
  • Spirit Light can replace Soothing Memories as a spikier but less energy efficient heal.
  • Death Pact Signet and Lively Was Naomei can replace Resurrection Signet and Generous was Tsungrai, in which case only two major runes for restoration and channeling magic should be used.
  • Vengeful Weapon is useful as it gives a decent heal as well armor ignoring damage, and may be a good replacement when condition removal is not needed.
  • Flesh of My Flesh or Lively Was Naomei should be used in PvE.
