The MTA should be reporting itself as the host that it's on not an entire domain. That would be the reason for the additional spam scoring. If you have individual MTA's they would all have the "name" of the machine they are on as opposed to "guildwikis.org".

If that rule triggers when the hostname doesn't resolve to the IP, then it won't matter since the machine's FQDN won't resolve anyway. --Fyren 22:13, 22 November 2006 (CST)

sigh* What triggers that rule is when the HELO does not match the IP. In other words, gamewikis.org does not resolve to 208.100.0.89... it is -forged- and fraudulent. The HELO or name of the MTA should be something that resolves to the actual IP that the MTA lives on. It can be vagina.gamewikis.org as long as vagina.gamewikis.org resolves to the IP of the host the MTA is on. The reverse does not have to match. But the forward does. No I saw it, but someone has control over the gamewikis.org DNS. So the simple answer is to 1) Change the DNS such that a host resolves to that IP. 2) Change the name of the configured MTA to match that DNS A Record. ErkDog 00:38, 23 November 2006 (CST)

So, I looked at the header of the last e-mail sent to me. The MTA is still reporting itself as "gamewikis.org." When I am logged in I can see my name, talk, preferences etc on every page but the main page. On the main page it still says "Login/Create Account".

[edit] Logging in as other users

This has happened twice to me now, both within just the past few days. I visit GuildWiki and I'm signed in as another user. Both times were random people I've never met. I have it set to auto sign me in. The first link I click resolves the issue, properly showing MY account again. But - that first link takes me to that page as that user. Meaning if I click "My Contributions," it takes me to their contributions. But once at their contributions, I'm myself again, meaning if I then click "My Talk" it takes me to my talk. I'm not enough of a WikiGuru to find some way to exploit this, but I'm certain someone is. --Macros† (talk/contribs) 19:24, 2 December 2006 (CST)

Just for the record there isn't any way to exploit this. You cannot carry out any actions as the user that you appear to be logged in as. I don't think you can gain access to any of their data either. <LordBiro>/<Talk> 06:17, 3 December 2006 (CST)

Exact same browser, exact same user. And I hope I'm wrong but I do believe you can carry out actions as that user, but not on purpose. For example, you can't just notice you're logged on as another user and think "Wow, now I'm going to ruin for this person!", since as soon as you click something you're yourself again. But I do believe it is possible to get edits through as someone else if you're unlucky. After all, it's a php script receiving the edit when you click "Save page", and the same as any other php script, that is most likely affected by the same bug since afaik MediaWiki uses the same variable globally through all their scripts. It's gotta be a very rare case though. — Galil

That I know, I just thought page contents was the only thing that got cached, not the "user-bar" at the top (atleast not server-wise), and that user-bar, did also change. This is not really a bug, but I don't know where else to post this... I do not appreciate this semi-porn picture on the wiki. I am a concerned parent and I don't beleive my kids and myself should see this on a game-related site. I've contacted Mate1, but perhaps the wiki admins can apply some pressure as well.

[edit] GameWikis skin display problem

Description: GameWikis skin not showing the support links from the toolbox on the left of each page.

Page: All when using GameWikis skin.

Problem: Under IE6 (will test others later from home), with the monobook skin, on the left it shows five links under "navigation" and three links under "support". When I switch to the "new" default GameWikis skin, all I see are the initial five links under navigation. The three links under support are not shown.

[edit] Firefox Display Issues

--65.95.129.92 16:29, 15 December 2006 (CST) Guildwiki has always worked perfectly in Firefox for me, and yet today when I got on the site suddenly the frames were broken, meaning the coloured blocks with links such as "builds" run into the navigation/search frame on the left, which overlap. Also, when I went to a page other than the main page, the skin disappeared completely and I was left with a text/link only page with no images. Did someone change the source code and make it firefox incompatable by accident?

Yes it is looking completely borked in Firefox for me also. Like it's been reverted back to a skin from 1990 or something. Looks normal in IE though.

I'm guessing that fixed it because your GuildWiki cookies got deleted, so it had to load up your preferences again. The old cookies must have contained some data that got screwed up when the GameWikis skin was deleted, which was corrected by either re-selecting a skin, or deleting your cookies :) — Biscuits (talk

[edit] A Suggestion for a better user interface

Hey guys,

I can't say I love GuildWiki enough -- It really is one of the best websites that is game related which I have come across in my many years of computer gaming.

I am writing to describe a "feature" rather than a bug, but I couln't find the best suggestion box, so I used this area of the website.

I have a simple suggestion which I believe would make your site even more valuable than it is today. This idea just dawned upon me tonight and I don't have time nor the energy to focus efforts on your site, but you might want to take the suggestion -- or you might want to throw it out the window like an old banna peel that turned black due to complete disneglect.

You have maps which show all of the different areas in GW -- and I have not found much better anywhere on the planet. But -- as I was researching today how to do what I would like to do within the GW world, I found that your maps are somewhat limited in that they show particular areas but they don't show where the portals lead to.

I believe it would be a KILLER addition to your site to have someone go through your images of the world and add the linked portions of the world as a name to each portal on the image you currently have stored for each area of the world.

I would be happy to contribute to this effort if your website would like to extend the effort to add to your information in this respect.

If not -- because your website literally runs itself and your community is overwhelming, then that is ok too, but I wanted to write in as a gaming and game programming vet of 25 years to let you know that your site is "the bomb" and I cannot believe how much intuition and influence you people have over so many people. You really should should start to look for outside advertising or other ways to expand your "super" potential.

Sorry, I edited the impacted article earlier this morning to fix this, but had to leave quickly and forgot to respond here. This morning I shrunk the map image on that page based on the bug report. After testing - it appears that this only happens if the header is the top-most item on the page. If there's a TOC, or even a <br/> inserted to add a space, then the horizontal line shows correctly.

Your local system has cached the image. Hold "CTRL" while clicking the refresh button on your browser - that should force your system to not use the cached version, but to use a fresh download from the site instead. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 16:15, 30 January 2007 (CST)

I personally haven't experienced slowness so I don't think it's on our host's network's end. Major slowdown for me on GuildWiki off-and-on all week, and at all hours of the day/night from multiple pcs using different internet providers. I've tried multiple sites in both .com and .org domains, and no other sites seems affected.

I started some tasks earlier today here and just gave it up due to the horrendous slowdowns. I suspect if it can't be resolved soon, it'll spur migration of people to the official wiki. I'm not experiencing the lag at present but I ran a trace anyways. I'm currently getting about a 40ms response time from gamewikis.org with zero packet loss on ping (approximately the same response time from trace) If you attempt to compare times I'm in the Central Time Zone of the US so you can approximate the number of hops it takes to get to the server. I did some further checking and sometimes squid's reported response times are spiking. Not sure what's causing it since numbers for CPU, memory, and hits/usage aren't out of the ordinary. As a shot in the dark, I restarted squid. Keep posting if you think things are slow. (I still haven't noticed slowness; some people I asked have, some haven't.) Earlier today I attempted to access GWiki but the server timed out, giving a generic The Page Cannot Be Accessed message. That was...hmm...three hours ago maybe. Now, I loaded up GWiki but it took like 5 minutes just to reach Main Page. Once I'm actually on it seems to speed up a little bit, however I'm not even going to bother logging in because in general things are really quite slow and I'm always hovering on the edge of another timeout. VERY slow, both from work (which routes through a corporate proxy in Europe), and from home (which uses comcast in the USA). No other sites affected. Why does it seem that the server's clock is always running slow? Currently it appears to be ~ 8 minutes slow for me. I checked my preferences to make sure it wasn't a time zone offset or something like that (I don't have it set to -7:52 or anything). [edit] Can't Stay Logged In

Each time I log in, I can remain so for about 2-3 pages before the status disappears, and I'm asked to log in again any time I try to edit a page or upload an image. I have cleared my browser cache and made sure cookies are enabled, but for some reason it just won't keep me logged in. The status seems to appear and disappear randomly, as occasionally I will be shown as logged in again after several minutes of browsing. This happens to me sometimes, but almost always it is because I spent too long editing a page and it auto-logged out from inactivity. "Lost data over session" or somesuch. Weird - works fine for me. Deleting your GuildWiki cookie and restarting the browser should fix the problem - you'll have to log in again. In Firefox: Tools > Options > Privacy > Show Cookies > search for gw.gamewikis.org > Delete all the GuildWiki cookies > Restart Firefox. Hope this helps. — Biscuits (talk

Well...the problem is, I have IE6 or somesuch, not FireFox (Win98 ><). But I can try and find the cookies anyways. Corsaire: yah, the links are "there" onscreen but they're not really "there" if you know what I mean. They are just text. I hover the mouse over them, "Skins" is not a link at all, and the "Files" one is very small (like 1 pixel wide), hard to click on. I tried manually imputting the address, Special:Preferences#prefsection-1, but that bugged and didn't do anything...A whole bunch of other things broke as well. For example the Save page button, now I can only click on the rightmost 1/4 of it to save; the Minor Edit box is covered with the "Get Firefox" Google ad; on most pages every bit of text is gone and just the colored links remain; etc etc. Dun wanna put more screens up because they're big files, but it's just craziness. :'( Let's hope that cookies thing works. 24.6.147.36 09:06, 16 February 2007 (CST)

Hello,

Just wanted to report that your search engine is too text specific and doesn't allow for variables such as spelling mistakes. But, in particular, it doesn't allow for plural forms of words resulting in a "word not found".

For example, you could type "insect carapaces" and no results are found but you must type "insect carapace" in order to get a result. I think it would be a relatively easy matter to deal with and I'm surprised no one has addressed that issue yet.

I would vote against redirects. I see this as treating the symptom and not the problem. I could not imagine the work to add a redirect for every item in the game just so searches with a trailing 's' worked. It would seem that the code for the search could be changed to first run the search as entered and if the results are zero then rerun the search if there is a trailing 's' truncating the 's' during the search process. User pages don't need to be edited in html. Actually, the html allowed in the wiki is somewhat limited. The wiki uses it's own markup language. And no one forces you to use specil formatting. Earlier today, I was getting the following error whenever they attempt to make edits on GuildWiki.

A database query syntax error has occurred. This may indicate a bug in the software. The last attempted database query was:

from within function "Revision::insertOn". MySQL returned error "1114: The table 'guild_text' is full (208.100.1.138)".
