[edit] About Me

Hello :) welcome to my page!

[edit] On GameWikis

See my user page on Meta.

[edit] On GuildWiki

I'm an admin on the GuildWiki and you can come to me for anything. I'm not always about, but I'll respond as soon as I can, and most of the other admins keep an eye on my talk page, so they will often beat me to it :)

Of the 30,758 users registerd on the GuildWiki I am user ID #6 (beat that Tanaric).

I'm most concerned with the level of professionalism and usability in articles of the GuildWiki and was responsible, along with Tanaric, for many of the early decisions in article standards.

Other than that I'm responsible for many of the icons on the wiki (icons are cool) specifically the profession icons.

[edit] Off GuildWiki

My name in Guild Wars is "Lord Biro" but more often than not I am referred to as baxter. I can usually be contacted on the quakenet irc network with the nick baxter. Please feel free to say hello :) I should let you know that if my name is in uppercase (BAXTER) then I'm probably away or offline.

My website is EndOfLevelBoss.org. It's really great, you should have a look and then tell me how great it is. Go on!

[edit] Giant Robot

If you're playing Guild Wars you may notice me playing as Lord Biro, although this is my original character and more often than not I'm playing as a PvP character. All the characters that I make for PvP these days start with "Giant Robot". If you spot "Giant Robot Face" or "Giant Robot Badger" around then that's me. I'll usually be fighting for the Luxons in the European district.

At long last I have settled in what will probably be my last guild, [HoK]. If you see some HoK guys around say hi, they are really friendly and read the GuildWiki frequently.

[edit] My thoughts on GuildWiki

If you want to discuss any of these points please do so on my talk page. :)

[edit] GuildWiki > official documentation

If you've ever developed a system you will know that documenting it is a pain in the ass. The main problem stems from one important point: the developers of a system are too close to the system itself to document it adequately for a user. This means that either one of two things is likely to happen.

  • The documentation will be overly technical and not useful.
  • The documentation will be written by a team of manual writers, who might not fully understand the technical information passed to them.

Stabber made the point recently that an official wiki, maintained by ArenaNet, would contain more accurate information than the GuildWiki. I believe this line of thinking is flawed and optimistic.

If ArenaNet cannot get the in-game skill descriptions right then I doubt they would be able to provide any more accurate information on a wiki. And on top of that, what kind of information would they provide? What the developers expect will happen in the game might be very different to what actually happens in the game. It would be very difficult for developers to predict the emergent behaviour that comes from using skills in combination.

Overall I feel that user-created documentation will always be superior to official documentation.

[edit] GuildWiki images

I like making icons and other images. Here are some examples of my work!

The new profession icons have been updated for some time now, and they are looking rather awesome if I do say so myself!

I also designed the GuildWiki logo.

And I tidied up a lot of icons taken from the game such as the ones used in the skill box.

I didn't do sacrifice though. :) I made the Image:Male.png and Image:Female.png icons.

I recently made a little star, Image:Star-small.png, that I am quite fond of. It reminds me of Kirby.

I also made some warning icons for things like the Nightfall tag.

[edit] Monks and Ritualists

I'm a Monk, through and through, and so Factions has brought some interesting new choices. As well as the Monk's Factions skills there are also a number of Ritualist skills that would support a Monk. I've started a page, User:LordBiro/Mo Rt Skills, that lists some Ritualist skills that I think would be useful to a Monk. Any feedback would be appreciated :)
