The Holy Sniper utilizes Ranger bow attacks coupled with Monk spells from the Smiting line for added damage variation and flexibility. Although the energy cost of the Monk spells are not reduced by the Ranger primary attribute Expertise, energy should not be a problem due to the low cost of the spells. In addition, the Ranger elite Marksman's Wager will help with energy management. This build was primarily created for PvE.

[edit] Usage

  • Penetrating Attack and Power Shot are the two main bow attacks to use. Both have fairly short recharge times as well.
  • Use Distracting Shot as the primary interrupt against foes.
  • Utilize Bane Signet, Banish, and Spear of Light for a holy damage spike that essentially ignores armor. The combination of these three can churn out roughly 160 maxium damage with only a 10 energy expenditure (at Smiting Prayers level 8).
  • The above spells are also useful if you are under the effects of Blindness or facing a Warrior who is dodging or blocking your bow attacks.
  • If energy is running low, Marksman's Wager should adequately replenish your energy pool.

  • As with any damage-focused build, there isn't much room for defensive skills, so being swarmed is one concern. However, theoretically the player should be in the back lines to begin with.
  • No way to counteract health degeneration or life stealing.
  • Mesmers using an energy denial strategy are always a pain. However, with Marksman's Wager, this is less of a problem than for other Rangers.

[edit] Variants

  • Other holy spells like Holy Strike could be substituted for Bane Signet for a quicker casting.
  • Spear of Light is used here instead of Smite because of the increased damage. Smite is also viable since its energy cost is reduced by Expertise.
  • Resurrection Signet could be swapped out for a defensive skill like Lightning Reflexes or Throw Dirt.
  • It is possible to obtain the Factions copy of Penetrating Attack (Sundering Attack) and use that instead of Power Shot. This would give the player two armor-penetrating bow attacks with short recharges.
  • Judge's Insight could be added instead of Resurrection Signet for an added punch to bow attacks. This is fairly expensive to keep up over the course of a battle, since it lasts under 20 seconds maximum and is not reduced by Expertise.
