This build is not favored by the
GuildWiki community.
The general consensus among users of GuildWiki is that this build is not viable. |
A pure warrior disabling mesmer that is particularly effective in Random Arenas and Team Arenas. This build relies on the power of the Elite Skill, Signet of Midnight.

[edit] Usage
The key to this build is that Signet of Midnight's blind duration last as long as its cooldown duration. Thus, you can infinitely keep an enemy blinded. By using Plague Touch, you can keep 2 warriors blinded indefinetly.
Hang back at the start of a match, and use Signet of Midnight(note the touch range) on a charging warrior, then use plague touch to transfer the blind on yourself to another warrior. Cast Spirit of Failure on both of those warriors. Since the warriors are blind, every time they swing their weapon, you gain 5 energy from Spirit of Failure. This is particularly effective in Competition Arenas, because the majority of warrior-players just swing into blind without end. Thus, you have a constant supply of energy. Cast Diversion to disable condition removing skills, such as Mend Aliment, other Plague Touch, and CoP. Also, use Spirit Shackles to drain energy from players who blindly attack with their weapon, even if they're a caster. Spirit Shackles is especially effective against Rangers, who are heavily energy and weapon dependent.
Hex Breaker and Ether Feast are use to protect yourself, since you often won't have a healer on your team in Competition Arenas.
Remember, this particular skill setup deals no damage what-so-ever. However, you have the potential of completely disabling 2 warriors. Alternate skill setups allow for some damage, without sacrficing too much "annoyance factor."
[edit] Variations
- Empathy deals damage every time the enemy attacks, even when blinded
- Spirit Shackles + Mind Wrack can be an effective way to deal damage and cause energy denial
- Price of Failure will be triggered on every attack due to blindness.
- Malaise can be used as a form of energy denial against casters.
- Wastrel's Worry is used to cover diversion, and attempt to induce the enemy to use a skill to avoid the Wastrel's damage, but disabling that skill for nearly minute if the enemy does so.
- Mantra of Inscriptions will recharge your Signet of Midnight much faster and you can keep more than 2 enemies blinded.
- Parasitic Bond can be used as a cover hex and a self heal.

[edit] Counters
- Direct damage from spells, ie Air Magic and Fire Magic
- Avoid using condition removal skills while hexed with Diversion
- Nature's Renewal will significantly slow the hex spells, making them easier to interrupt
- Using Plague Touch to move the conditions to someone other than the SoM Mesmer
